Brutalist Style Open Plan Apartment by Juliana Garcia Arquitetura
This apartment designed by Juliana Garcia Arquitetura is a renovation project located in the city of São Paulo. Among the client’s requested premises are the integration of the kitchen with the living room/TV area, the possibility of expanding the square footage of the social area, and its potential use for a home office. The organizing element of the integrated space is the wooden dining table in the center, which physically separates the functions of the kitchen and the living room/TV area. This table has network and power outlets to allow laptop connections for the home office.
On the white hydraulic tile wall, the kitchen functions with appliances such as a cooktop, oven, dishwasher, hood, and microwave are concentrated. The microwave is placed under the central white island that supports the wooden table. On the wall where the green cabinet, white upper cabinet, and refrigerator under the yellow metal frame are located, the uses are intentionally undefined and clear, thus creating a random transition between the functions of the kitchen, office, and living room/TV area.
To expand the social area, as previously mentioned, the walls of the service area and toilet were pushed back, increasing the circulation space around the central table.
