Room Anatomy: Kitchen Nook
For those of you lucky enough to have a kitchen nook, this is a design challenge I always look forward to the most. A kitchen nook is a space often overlooked and yet it can be an area of the house most frequented. I like a nook that combines both comfort and function. This is probably the spot where many meals are served but it also might be a workspace or a place your kiddos do homework. I love combining a table with both comfortable seating as well as chairs.
In our room anatomy we chose a kitchen nook that didn?t go the standard ?built in? window seat but rather a sofa in the back and chairs in the front ? around a modern table. To keep the space from looking too sterile, wicker lampshades and a basket for magazines and newspapers, add needed texture. I know when I was growing up, the kitchen nook is where I did my homework and often ate meals. You could also swap out the sofa for two wing chairs ? the importance is the comfort factor that will draw you into the space for a variety of activities.
